Leading up to our Progressing the Good Life event on June 8, we will be introducing the 2018 fellows. Today, we meet Meghan Francis.
I’m an Omaha native currently living in Gifford Park with my 10 year-old labradoodle, Bebop. I’m proud to work in the Education department at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland where I manage a federal grant to implement evidence-based comprehensive sex education in five counties in Nebraska and Iowa.
The word I heard most when folks would talk to me about New Leader’s Council, was family. Being part of a family built on shared values and filled with progressive leaders who really care about their communities has been like the best perpetual family dinner that I forever want to be a part of.
Other than my 18 new family members, NLC has provided me with motivation to stay engaged with my community and advocate for change. Every institute weekend has challenged what I thought I knew about being a leader in Omaha.
I have a Wayne's World friendship tattoo with my good friend Kate!
My capstone aims to amend state law so School Based Health Centers can counsel and distribute contraceptive methods. Currently, the law limits the information youth are receiving about their health and planning for the future. It's going to be a long process, but I'm hopeful that Nebraska sees the value in taking charge of your reproductive health at a young age.
Support Meghan and all of NLC by attending "Progressing the Good Life" on June 8. Buy tickets today at http://omaha.newleaderscouncil.org/thegoodlife.
